Today I woke up to the news of the passing of Gene Colan, a comic book legend whose works include The Tomb Of Dracula and some excellent runs of 80's Batman. The news hit me hard. Harder than they should all things considered. You see I haven't really read that many stories that Gene Colan has illustrated. The few things I have read defined an era and the horror comic book genre for me when I was young. But it's strange how sad the passing of a stranger can make me. I've recently noticed, with the passing of such luminaries as Dwayne McDuffieand now Gene Colan, that it's the deaths of creators that seem to get to me. I think it's the fact that the creativity of these brilliant individuals is suddenly denied to us completely. Ofcourse they will be remembered through their art and stories that aren't going anywhere, but there won't be anything new coming from them. Their worlds won't expand anymore they are now limited to what they are as before there was this infinite potential..
Rest In Peace Gene You will be remembered.
